The Daily Whine

Whatever my whine for the day is (and sometimes a Wine as well) But also includes rants and raves about my favorite two authors - Tolkien and Lewis. Currently working on the "Why the Eagle couldn't take the ring" Theory to be published in mid January.

It's in the Air

The third week in August was unseasonably cool. Although something felt very right about it. Then it occured to me, college football was just around the corner. It was time to ready the tailgating supplies, press the girls little cheerleader outfits and start wearing crimson and white.

Here in the south it is very unusual to have a cool august, and by cool I mean in the 70's.(F) But this year, it seems appropriate. This is a turning of the tide so to speak. A program with the opportunity to get back on its feet. To begin to put the turmoil of the past behind and start out the season fresh.

Game day had arrived. However, the cool air had gone and the reality of 90 degree weather for opening day had set in. The Tide came out with an opening victory of 48-17 against Utah State. What a way to start the season.

After a win over Ole Miss of 28-7 and a 52-0 routing of Western Carolina, we are ready for the rest of the season. 3-0 what a way to start the year. Today we are saddened to learn of the loss of Brody Croyle for the remainder of the season but are still hopeful for this Tide team.

This is my favorite time of year. The leaves will begin changing, by the end of the season the weather will be cooler, the smell of grills and whiskey and beer on the quad, arriving the night before to stake your claim on the quad - this, my friends, is ALABAMA FOOTBALL.
