Fruits and Nuts

Fruits and Nuts Posted by Hello

It's always puzzled me about the amount of fruits and nuts you see around Christmas time. No, I don't mean the kind that Peaches and Generic Dragon or Cocles and Pixie all have to live with residing in California. I'm talking about apples, oranges, tangelos, walnuts, and pecans. The things that always show up in your stocking that you never really eat, I didn't anyway. Every year, 'Santa' would cram our stocking full of fruits and nuts. And every year I would dump them right back into the bowl they had come from. My mom kept up this tradition with my children because we've always been at their house Christmas.

This year mom's in London, so guess what - the stockings will be filled with lots of real goodies, like chocolates and candies, and craft things (my girls love to make crafts). No fruit, no nuts. Well okay mom, I'll put one apple in each.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Dingus

Dingus Posted by Hello

Well, this blog actually started in my head a couple of weeks ago when I couldn't get to where I was going because of some severly backed up traffic. Lo and behold the traffic which I was sure was due to some major fatal accident, (completely stopped on the interstate) was due to onlookers. The hold up was the Pelham fire department had set a house on fire to practice. This is what was holding up the traffic. I was so aggrevated I was coming home to blog on all the idiots out there when I discovered that Pixie had just blogged on the idiots out in the world. So I was going to let it go. But then last night, I'm out driving around, and I live near the Galleria which is obviously flooded with Christmas shoppers being the only major mall in a town of a million people. So, not being in a hurry and in a good mood, I wave the guy on the side in front of me, not so much as a look my way, a thank you, nothing. Then I try to get out on the major road and dinguses are blocking the interesection. What is it with people, they don't remember the common laws and courtesies taught to them in drivers education? But then I remember that Alabama doesn't even require drivers education to get a license.

Of course there is always the fat ass lazy person blocking the entire lane waiting on the closest spot to the store because they are too lazy to walk a few extra feet. Are they afraid they might burn off some of that Big Mac? What is up with people these days? There seems to be a severe decline in the IQ of people lately. Or is everyone just so self-centered they think they are the only ones out there or that everyone should wait on them?

Get with it people. Get out of your self-centered universe and get with the program.

The Reindeer Myth

The Reindeer Myth Posted by Hello

Okay this is an old one, but I love it every year.

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers till after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to EVERY historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer,EVERY single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a girl. We should've known... ONLY women would be able to drag a fat-ass man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

And yes, boys it's true

Dr. Medlin and Me Posted by Hello

Finally, for all you wanting to know. The guy in the picture is Dr. Bobby Medlin. He was my advisor in College, and also a good mentor and friend. Since I went to a small school, he was also my professor for my major (Business Management). I learned more about life and my major from him then probably anyone else I can think of. (Get your mind out of the gutter boys, I never dated him - my dad was his boss ;-) ) He was a great influence on me and always held the bar higher to force me to achieve above my level and he never accepted mediocre work from me either. Dr. Medlin was the best college professor I ever had, and when I log in here and see that pic, it reminds me not to accept mediocre for anything I decide to do.

The Third Saturday in October

Or it used to be anyway. For many years growing up the third Saturday in October was all about the "Class Rival" Tenneessee Volunteers and the Alabama Crimson Tide Then a few years ago they said we couldn't do the "Rammer Jammer" cheer. (Found at the bottom of this page as it isn't anywhere online.) Then they changed the date of the game to the fourth Saturday - it just wasn't the same. Then they moved it back to third, and this year back to the fourth. It just isn't the same.

Well, this year was worse. This year the truth has started coming out about Alabama's probation. Seems Coach Phil FUlmer of the Tennessee Vols, had a little to do with it. This has added to the normal level of this rivalry. This should also be the year for us to beat them at Tenneessee.

Now comes the real purpose of this blog. A few weeks ago, we lost first string quarterback Brody Croyle to an ACL injury. Then lost the second string quarterback to a back injury. So now we are starting the third string guy - Chad Pennington. A junior with only a little experience. Now, had we had Brody, we probably would be 8-0 right now. But we don't. And, for the first time I understand what is meant by "There are no moral victories in football." Almost doesn't count. Pennington made a rookie mistake that cost us a touchdown towards the end of the game. And then, with 46 seconds left, through an interception straight to the guy in orange. Not to mention we fumbled on the opening drive that they picked up and ran in for a touchdown. Those 3 mistakes made all the difference in the game. Tennessee won 17-13. If even one of those mistakes hadn't happened, it would have been a win. Now many people will say, we hung in there, it wasn't a rout, etc. Who cares. We should be 8-0. Now, Pennington get it together and win.

RAMMER JAMMER
Hey Auburn (or whoever) Hey Auburn
We're gonna beat the hell out of you.
Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer
Give 'em hell Alabama!

Thank You Mr. C

Well, it wasn't the Awesome Ash, but I was ROFLMAO the whole time while watching Shaun of the Dead. This movie was awesome and pure dumb fun. For all you lovers of dumb fun movies like Bubba Ho-tep, Army of Darkness, etc. I highly recommend Shaun of the Dead. I never stopped laughing.

For those of you who know me, you know I don't do scary or gore well, not even dumb fun scary or gore. I made it through this with my eyes open. Yes there is gore and yes there is plenty of dumb fun, but I was laughing so hard, I had to keep watching. The reason this is entitled "Thank You Mr. C" is Cocles first got me started watching these kinds of movies. He and some other guys over at SST talked me in to watching Army of Darkness, and once I got the idea, I have loved these movies. Thanks again, Mr. C, I had a blast today.
